According to Harvey Shapiro, planning took about a year

According to Harvey Shapiro, planning took about a year before the earliest Philosophy of Education Society members had their first meet-up in Philadelphia in a session called “A Meeting of Teachers of Philosophy of Education.” It was also then that the members agreed to name their group the Philosophy of Education Society. The society had 34 official members then. Today, 80 years later, the Philosophy of Education Society prides itself of having hundreds of members that include faculty, graduate students, and other interested parties from all over the world.
